Frequent Questions

What is stalling current search efforts?

In April of 2006, longtime treasure seeker and half owner of Oak Island, Mr. David Tobias, sold his interest to a group of four from Michigan. Now known as "The Michigan Group", the plan is to team with co-owner and Oak Island legend, Dan Blankenship to resume the search. The plan is to use state-of-the-art techniques such as diamond bit drilling, sonar scanning and underwater ROV cameras to re-examine the Money Pit area and Borehole 10-X before beginning an actual dig. Work is expected to begin after the current Treasure Trove License, held by another group, expires on June 30, 2008.

Can I visit the island?

The island is closed to the public. No access is likely for someone wanting to sightsee.

What is The Money Pit?

The "Money Pit" itself is not an open shaft. It has been refilled since the 1960's. Most of the exploration for the last 25 years has taken place 140 feet NE of the pit site at Borehole 10X. No one... no one... has any direct evidence pointing to any particular group that could have, or would have constructed the Money Pit.

Have you visited the island?

Yes, I have visited the island. I have seen the evidence. I have seen the artifacts. I have spent many hours talking with the men who have been doing the searching for the last 30 years. I can tell you this for a fact: A long time ago... someone... did something on this island. Whether it was a treasure or documents or religious icons is not important. The important thing is WHY and WHO!!!!

When were the last search efforts conducted?

The last real work done on the island was in 1995 when a team from Woods Hole visited the island and spent two weeks doing a survey and making suggestions.

With today's technology, why has this mystery not been solved?

The technology for getting to the bottom of the Money Pit has always been with us. Simply move back far enough away from the 13 foot diameter site and dig a gradually sloping hole. You can dig as deep as you want, but the expense is in the tens of millions of dollars.

What can I do to help with the search?

If you are a serious investor and have the means to conduct a search for the treasure, we will look at your proposal. You can e-mail Bill at oak_island@hotmail.com
